Zerebro is a fictional superhero character appearing in the comic book series ''Future City'' published by Viator Comics. Created by writer Tomás Lázaro and artist Juliana Marchesan in 1972, the character became popular among readers for his distinctive silver helmet and telepathic and telekinetic abilities. He is also known as the protector of the futuristic city in which he lives, working tirelessly to keep the peace and serve justice alongside his faithful sidekick, Shock.
Zerebro's secret identity is Max Alexander, a brilliant scientist who designed a helmet capable of amplifying his latent mental abilities (telekinesis and mind control). When donning his helmet, Alexander becomes the fearless hero Zerebro, dedicated to using his powers for the greater good.
Zerebro is known for his strong moral compass and strategic thinking, always striving to find non-violent solutions to conflicts. At the same time, he never shies away from violence when it's necessary to protect the people of Future City from enemies.
Zerebro's most prominent abilities include force-field generation, telepathy, telekinesis, and mind control. Although most of his powers are mental, he is also an accomplished scientist and inventor in his secret identity. There are no limitations to the amount of weight he can lift or objects, but he must concentrate to move more than one item at a time.
His costume is comprised of a navy blue bodysuit adorned with white stripes, a silver belt, and a helmet with a red visor. The helmet, Max's creation, focuses and amplifies his mental abilities, while the visor protects his eyes from intense light emissions appearing in some of his mental abilities.
Zerebro works closely with a partner named Shock, who can generate and manipulate electricity. Zerebro and Shock met while both were members of the Future City University Scientific Defence Coalition and bonded over their shared desire to use their abilities for heroism. Together they protect Future City from numerous threats.
Speaking of enemies, the most formidable ones are an organization known as Oblivion, whose goal is to conquer Future City. Led by the cunning and merciless Onyx, Oblivion commands an army of genetically enhanced soldiers, artificially intelligent robots, and a myriad of supervillains.
The battles between Zerebro and Oblivion have spanned countless issues, as the hero repeatedly thwarts the organization's attempts to overthrow the city. Many enemies have been introduced in the series. Among the most notable ones are Nightmare, Celestial, Hypnox, Tempest, Thunder, Terror, and Silhouette.
The popularity of Zerebro led to adaptations in other media. Zerebro appeared as the main character in two radio series (1975-1978 and 1980-1984), twelve cartoons episodes (1976), a TV series called ''The Future City Hero'' (1981-1985) and animated movies (1981, 1983, and 1985). In addition, Zerebro was awarded as ''Best Cosmic Hero of 1973'' at the International Comic Con, in Buenos Aires.
